Report: Liverpool make Taiwo Awoniyi transfer decision

The former Mainz attacker has not played for the Reds since he signed for them, but he recently received his UK work permit

Former Golden Eaglets striker Taiwo Awoniyi is likely to leave Liverpool permanently this summer despite receiving his UK work permit a few weeks ago.

Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015, two years after he helped the Nigerian u17 team win the World Cup hosted by the United Arab Emirates.

However, the 22-year-old is yet to play for the club and has gone out on loan to different teams due to his lack of a work permit.

But the Nigerian finally got his work permit after playing 21 times for Union Berlin, where he spent the just-concluded season on loan.

The work permit allows Awoniyi to play in England finally, but it’s not likely to be at Liverpool. Although his contract does not expire until 2023, it appears Liverpool are ready to let him leave permanently this summer.

According to The Athletic via futbol arena, Awoniyi is one of the eight players the Reds have put up for sale to raise funds this summer.

The Reds have put a price tag of £8m on the Nigerian, and he won’t be short of suitors after he scored five times and registered three assists in the Bundesliga this season.

Liverpool have already rejected a bid from Anderlecht, but there are interests from Skybet Championship Clubs.
