Nigeria vs. Mexico: Will fans be at the stadium to watch the clash between the intercontinental giants?

There is more detail available regarding the international friendly match between the African heavyweights and the American giants

Fans will be allowed to watch Nigeria’s intercontinental friendly encounter with Mexico slated for the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (LA Coliseum) on July 4.

The LA Coliseum is a 78,467-capacity multi-purpose stadium in Los Angeles, California.

And as a result of changes in California’s guidelines regarding the coronavirus pandemic, organisers have announced plans, as per LA’s Channel1, to allow fans into the stadium at full capacity, with no seating restrictions.

It could be good news for Nigerian fans who have been kept away from their beloved Super Eagles, with only a handful allowed to watch the team’s recent clash against Cameroon.

Mexico’s national team have already been reunited with many of its supporters as more than 70,000 fans packed Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium to watch El Tri battle Honduras last Saturday. That was believed to be the largest soccer crowd in the world since the start of the pandemic.

While Mexico’s El Tri see the match as part of their preparations for the Concacaf Gold Cup scheduled for July, the Super Eagles continue their plans to get into the best possible shape ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign set to kick off in September.

Pride is also at stake for the three-time African champions as they have never defeated the reigning Gold Cup winners in five previous confrontations in all competitions.

Three matches involving the two nations have ended in a draw and two in the West African’s defeat, including the penalty shoot-out loss at the 1995 Confederations Cup.
