Nantes still have a slight hope of avoiding relegation, all thanks to the brilliance of their Nigerian import
Moses Simon contributed to two of Nantes’ four goals as Antoine Komboaure’s men handed a 4-1 thrashing to Brest in a matchday 35 Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Francis le Ble.
Simon opened the scoring for the visitors after just 15 minutes and provided the assist to his side’s third goal courtesy of Imran Louza early in the second half.
Ludovic Blas had doubled Nantes’ lead midway through the first half, and just past the hour-mark, Kalifa Coulibaly scored from the penalty spot to make it 4-0 to the visitors.
Romain Faivre tapped home a late consolation for the home side after goalkeeper Alban Lafont had saved a goal-bound effort.
Defeat in Brest would have left 18th-place Nantes seven points behind Lorient and the safety of 17th position on the league table.
There are still four points between the two strugglers, though, and Nantes would still go down should Lorient win one of their final three games.
It would be a disappointing end to the campaign for Simon, who have now recorded six goals and three assists in 30 league matches for Nantes.
