Kanu, Keyamo, TwitterNG react as Iheanacho, Ndidi make FA Cup history with Leicester City

Eminent Nigerians have taken to their social media accounts to celebrate the two Nigerian stars following their triumph in the world’s oldest club competition

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have won the 2020/21 English FA Cup after Leicester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 in front of over 20,000 fans at Wembley.

It is the first time in history that Leicester City have won the Emirates FA Cup.

Iheanacho’s goals had proved crucial in wins over Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United, and Southampton to help Brendan Rodgers’ men set up a date against Chelsea in the final.

But it was Youri Tielemans’ powerful drive into the top corner midway through the second half, which ended Leicester’s 137-year wait for the prestigious trophy.

It is also the first FA Cup winner’s medal for Ndidi and Iheanacho, as the Foxes duo become the eighth and ninth Nigerians to win the world’s oldest cup competition.

Daniel Amokachi, Nwankwo Kanu, Celestine Babayaro, John Utaka, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, and Alex Iwobi are the other Super Eagles stars to have previously won the trophy.

Nigerian legend and three-time FA Cup winner Kanu was one of the first football personalities to congratulate Ndidi and Iheanacho on the remarkable feat.

Nigeria’s Minister of State, Labour & Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), also took time to celebrate the two newest Nigerian heroes.

Here are excerpts of more congratulatory messages flowing in the direction of Ndidi and Iheanacho following their FA Cup exploits.

Finalists in 1949, 1961, 1963, and 1969, the Foxes are the 44th team to win the FA Cup.
