Iheanacho Strikes again but Leicester City’s champions league hopes suffer a huge blow

The striker marked his Premier League player of the month nomination with another goal, but it was not enough to prevent the Foxes from suffering a shock defeat at home

Kelechi Iheanacho was yet again on target, but Leicester City’s Champions League hopes suffered a huge setback as they suffered a shocking home loss to Newcastle.

Iheanacho scored Leicester’s second, but the Magpies were 4-2 winners on the night. Leicester suffered an early blow just before the start of the match as Jonny Evans picked up an injury during the warm-up.

Evans injury affected Leicester badly, and they fell behind in the 22nd minute. Joe Willock capitalised on an error from Caglar Soyuncu to put the away side ahead.

It got worse for Brendan Rodgers men a few minutes later as Paul Dummett headed in Newcastle’s second in the 34th minute.

Callum Wilson then added a third in the 64th minute before scoring his second and Magpies fourth in the 73rd minute.

March Albrighton pulled one back for the Foxes 10 minutes from time before Iheanacho halved the deficit in the 87th minute.

It was Iheanacho’s tenth Premier League goal in nine matches since the start of March, and no other player has scored more.

But sadly, Leicester City’s champions league hopes suffered a massive blow as a result of the loss. Brendan Rodgers men could lose their third spot should Chelsea beat City tomorrow, while West Ham could reduce the gap between them to just two points.

And with three games left to play, it could be a case of Deja Vu for the Foxes, having missed out on the top four in similar circumstances last season.
