Former Barcelona midfielder advises Ajayi on next move after West Brom’s relegation

The former Rotherham player suffered the disappointment of relegation in his first season in the top-flight after the Baggies lost to the Gunners on Sunday night

Former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Amuneke has advised Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi to be proactive in his next move after West Brom was relegated from the Premier League.

Ajayi featured for all 90 minutes against the Gunners, but the defender could not stop the trio of Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pepe, and  Willian from getting a goal each for the home team. The Nigerian international has made 30 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals so far.

Sunday’s defeat, the 19th in the league this season, meant West Brom would be playing in the Championship next season after just one year in the elite division.

The Baggies are now four games without a win, having lost two and drawn two as their bid for Premier League safety collapsed.

After just one season back in the top flight, they will return to the Championship with Sheffield United, while Fulham look set to follow, having taken just one point from their last six games.

However, in a chat with Soccernet.ng, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist stated that Ajayi must make a quick decision on his West Brom future to help his chances of nailing a shirt in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations.

“It saddens my heart to know that Semi Ajayi’s West Brom has been relegated from the Premier League, Amuneke said.

For me, Ajayi is a good player who has been consistent with the Baggies since their first game in the league.

“At this point, there is a need for him to make a decision on his West Brom’s future in order to brighten his chances of playing in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and 2022 AFCON, he added.
