Erstwhile Super Eagles star strikes a blow to Fenerbahce’s title hopes as Onyekuru stars for Galatasaray

The penultimate game of the Turkish 2020/2021 Super Lig season went down on Tuesday evening, and two Nigerians played a vital role for their clubs

Forgotten Super Eagles star Olanrewaju Kayode dealt a huge blow to Fenerbahce’s title hopes and boosted Henry Onyekuru’s Galatasaray ambitions.

Kayode scored his fifth league goal of the season as Sivasspor stunned Fenerbahce at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

The Austria Wien striker put the away side ahead in the added minute of the first half. Kayode could’ve had more but was denied by the woodwork.

However, Hakan Arslan doubled Sivasspor’s lead three minutes after the break to shock the home side. Although the Yellow Canaries pulled one back in the third minute of added time through Pappis Demba Cisse, it was a little too late to salvage a draw.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce’s loss was Galatasaray’s gain after they moved level on points with leaders Besiktas ahead of the final game.

The Lions were 4-1 winners at Denizlispor, with Super Eagles star Henry Onyekuru playing his part. The on-loan Monaco star created the assist for Galatasaray’s fourth, which was scored by Mostafa Mohamed.

Onyekuru was a second half substitute for Ryan Babel, who scored the second from the penalty spot after Halil Dervisoglu had put Faith Terim’s side ahead.

Recep Niyaz pulled one back for Denizlispor, but Mohamed’s late brace secured a comprehensive win for Galatasaray.
