Belgium Footballer of the Year: Oliseh reacts to Onuachu’s awards

The 1994 Afcon winner spent four and a half years of his career in Belgium and is pleased his younger compatriot has risen to be the best in the country

Former Nigerian international Sunday Oliseh has applauded Paul Onuachu for winning the Footballer of the Year and top scorer awards in Belgium.

Oliseh is convinced that Onuachu is deserving of the awards and has branded the 24-year-old as one of the best strikers in Nigeria and Africa.

Taking to his Twitter account, the former Juventus midfielder wrote:

“At the moment, Paul Onuachu is arguably Nigeria’s and one Of Africa’s most prolific strikers in the market. Fully deserved, and congrats Paul.”

Onuachu, on Monday night, won the two most important awards at the Belgian Pro League Awards traditional gala hosted at the JAM hotel in Brussels.

Following his stunning season with KRC Genk, the Super Eagles striker beat the duo of Club Brugge’s Dutchman Noa Lang and Beerschot’s forward Raphael Holzhauser to the honours.

A prolific campaign saw the former FC Midtjylland smash an incredible 35 goals in all competitions to help Racing lift the Belgian Cup and finish runners-up on the First Division A table to champions Brugge.

Italian, French, and Spanish teams are reportedly interested in snapping up the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window.
