Simy Breaks Obafemi’s Record After Eclipsing Aiyegbeni’s Feat

The Nigerian striker broke two records of former Super Eagles stars on Saturday evening after helping Crotone to a 4-3 win at Parma

Simy Nwankwo became the Nigerian to have scored the most goals in a single campaign in Europe’s top five leagues after scoring twice to help Crotone beat Parma.

Simy brace took his tally to 19, which helps him overtake Yakubu Aiyegbeni as the Nigerian to have scored the most goals in Europe’s top five leagues in a single season.

Aiyegbeni was the previous record-holder, having scored 17 goals for Blackburn Rovers in the 2011/2012 Premier League campaign.

Aiyegbeni’s record was not the only feat Simy eclipsed. The Nigerian international also moved past Obafemi Martins as the highest scoring Nigerian in the Serie A.

Martins scored 28 times in 88 matches for Inter Milan, but Simy’s brace takes his tally to 29 in 77 games. The 28-year-old also moved up to third in Serie A’s scoring chart this season.

His 19 goals take him above Luis Muriel, with only Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku ahead of him. Not only that, but he also became Crotone’s all-time top scorer earlier this season.

It has indeed been a record-breaking campaign for the 28-year-old.
