The Nigerian international saved her side’s blushes with a stoppage-time strike that secured their spot in the last four of the competition
Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade netted the only goal that powered Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad and into the semifinals of the Copa de la Reina on Wednesday evening.
The encounter at the Estadio Zubieta XXI in Lasarte-Oria was heading for a stalemate when Ajibade pounced on a Ludmila da Silva pass to smash home the winner two minutes into stoppage time.
The 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations winner only joined the former Spanish champions last year, but she has already celebrated a Supercopa Femenina triumph with the side.
Ajibade would, however, be keen to add the Copa de la Reina to her trophy cabinet, but it won’t be a walk in the Park with Asisat Oshoala’s Barcelona still in the competition.
Elsewhere in Russia, it was a disappointing evening for Chidera Ejuke after his CSKA Moscow side were dumped out of the Russian Cup following a 3-0 thrashing in the hands of city rivals Lokomotiv Moscow.
The one-cap Super Eagles winger saw every minute of action, but he could do little to help Ivica Olic’s men avoid defeat courtesy of goals from Francois Kamano and Grzegorz Krychowiak in either half and an Ivan Oblyakov own-goal.
