Olayinka Unlucky As Slavia’s Europa League Journey Ends Following Loss To Arsenal

The Nigerian international endured a frustrating night as Slavia’s Europa League run came to an end following an embarrassing home loss to the Gunners

Super Eagles star Peter Olayinka was in action for Slavia Prague, but the Czech champions are out of the Europa League after suffering a 4-0 defeat in the second leg of their quarter-final clash against Arsenal.

Slavia had held the Gunners to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates in the first leg and went into the second leg full of confidence, having knocked out British oppositions Leicester City and Rangers in the previous rounds.

However, they could not replicate the same feat this time around as Mikel Arteta’s men put up a commanding performance to reach their second Europa League semi-final in three years.

For Olayinka, it was a frustrating night, which ended with him getting a yellow for arguing with the referee. The 25-year-old had scored three goals going into the clash, but he failed to have a single shot on target on the night.

Arsenal showed their intentions right from the start, and they had the ball in the back of the net in the 17th minute through Emile Smith Rowe, but it was cancelled by VAR.

However, a minute later, Nicolas Pepe gave them the lead following a ball from Smith Rowe. From there on, it was goals galore as Alexandre Lacazette’s brace sandwiched by a Bukayo Saka’s strike sealed an emphatic win for the Gunners.

Arsenal will now meet Villarreal in the semi-final after the Spanish side defeated Dinamo Zagreb 3-1 on aggregate.
