The Nigerian international had been unstoppable in front of goal for the Foxes in March, but he couldn’t found his range against his former club in his first game in April
Benjamin Mendy’s superb goal and Gabriel Jesus’s composed finish handed Manchester City a 2-0 victory over Leicester City as Pep Guardiola’s men opened up a mammoth 17-point gap between themselves and second-placed Man Utd with just seven games of the campaign left to contest.
Brendan Rodgers named Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the starting eleven despite their exertions for the Super Eagles during the Afcon qualifiers a few days ago.
Iheanacho enjoyed his best spell for Leicester City since switching from Manchester City in 2017 last month after scoring seven times in five games.
The 24-year-old striker managed to find the back of the net five times in three league games, including a hat-trick against Sheffield United – a brilliant run of form that ensured he scooped the Premier League player for the month of March.
And the cherry on top came a few hours ago when the Foxes rewarded the former Manchester City forward with a new two-year deal.
But Iheanacho couldn’t celebrate his award and contract extension with another as Manchester City’s defence handled by Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias kept the Nigerian quiet.
Mendy and Jesus struck in the second half to power City to a win that inches the Citizens closer to another league title.
Both Ndidi and Iheanacho were replaced in the second half as the Foxes sought a way back into the game in vain.
