‘He’s a talented player’- Rodgers praises Iheanacho days after criticising him

The former Liverpool manager criticised the Nigerian after the Foxes win against West Brom, but he changed his tune on Monday night

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has praised the talents of Kelechi Iheanacho just days after saying the Nigerian makes too many mistakes.

Iheanacho continued his hot streak in front of goal as he scored and set up another to help Leicester to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in their Premier League encounter on Monday night.

It was Iheanacho’s tenth league goal of the season and his second in as many matches after scoring in the 3-0 win over West Brom last Thursday.  It was also his 14th goal in his last 14 games for the Foxes.

But following the win over the Baggies, Rodgers said Iheanacho needs to improve on his game as he makes a lot of mistakes.

However, on Monday night, the ex-Swansea boss was more positive in his words, praising the qualities of the Nigerian international.

“He’s a talented player – when he played Crystal Palace last time, around the Christmas period, he wasn’t playing so much, and when you are a striker, in particular, that rhythm of games is important,” Rodgers told Skysports.

“But over the last few months, he’s been absolutely incredible.

Rodgers praised the quality of Iheanacho’s goal on Monday night while was also impressed with his attitude and work rate.

It wasn’t just his goal tonight but his work rate, he wants to press the game. He has no ego whatsoever and he works so hard.

“But the goal he scored was sheer, sheer quality – the touch to come inside and then take it so early, it was a brilliant finish.”
