The 28-year-old is having a fantastic season with the Pythagoreans, and that could see him leave the club this summer
Crotone manager Serse Cosmi has admitted that it would be difficult for the club to keep their all-time top scorer Simy Nwankwo this summer.
Simy scored twice in Crotone’s 4-3 win at Parma to continue his incredible scoring streak this season. The Nigerian international’s latest brace increase his tally in the Italian top-flight to 19 goals in 33 appearances.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku have more goals in the Serie A this season than the former Gil Vicente striker.
Simy’s brace yesterday also made him Nigeria’s highest scorer in the Italian top-flight, beating Obafemi Martins record.
It did not stop there as he is now the Nigerian with most goals in a single season in Europe’s top five leagues this millennium.
However, Simy’s record in front of goal has not reflected in Crotone’s performances, with the Pythagoreans sitting bottom of the league table with just five wins all season.
And with relegation looming, Crotone manager Cosmi admits that Simy is likely to leave the Stadio Ezio Scida this summer.
” I don’t think he will stay in B because he deserves to experience stages like this or go abroad, Cosmi told Sky Italia after Crotone’s win on Saturday.
However, it was a different tone from Simy, with the Nigerian saying he is only focused on Crotone right now.
“I don’t think about it,” he told Sky Italia. I have too much respect for my people to talk about the future: now I can’t think of anything else”.
