Super Eagles star Chidozie Awaziem captained Boavista to a 2-0 victory over Pacos de Ferreira in the Portuguese Primera Liga clash between the two sides on Friday.
Awaziem led by example from the back as Boavista kept their eighth clean sheet in the league this season. The 24-year-old has now captained Boavista on four occasions this season.
Awaziem was on the pitch for 79 minutes, and he was impressive in his duties, although he did receive a yellow card in the 29th minute.
The Nigerian international won four duels, made four clearances and two interceptions. He also had a pass accuracy of 81%, including two successful long balls.
Boavista took the lead in the 13th minute through Yusupha Njie, finishing off a ball from Alberth Elis. Former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomis then doubled the lead three minutes before half-time to secure a comfortable win for the home side.
The result lifts Jesualdo Ferreira’s men to 13th place with 28 points, four points ahead of Maritimo in the last relegation spot.
