The Super Falcons star was at her brilliant best as Barcelona Femeni took a commanding lead in their UEFA Women’s Champions League tie against Manchester City
Asisat Oshoala scored and won a penalty to help Barcelona Femeni to a 3-0 win over Manchester City Women in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final clash.
The tie took place in Rome as Spain’s travel restrictions against travellers from England meant La Blaugranes could not host their English opponents at their home ground.
However, that did not matter as Oshoala and co took a commanding first-leg lead ahead of the second leg next week.
Lluis Cortes ladies took the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of a fine strike from Oshoala just outside the penalty area. The former Liverpool Ladies star fired in a right-footed strike after receiving a pass from Mariona Caldentey.
Oshoala’s goal ensured Barcelona went into the break with the advantage. The second half resumed with the Spanish champions trying to double their lead.
And they did that in the 53rd minute courtesy of a penalty from Caldentey after Oshoala was fouled in the box by Stokes.
However, three minutes later, Man City were presented with a chance to reduce the deficit after they were also awarded a penalty.
But Chloe Kelly’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Sandra Panos in Barcelona’s goal. City would later rue the miss as Jennifer Hermoso fired in a third for Barca four minutes from time to give them a three-goal advantage going into the second leg.
