The Super Eagles star played in his preferred role on Saturday evening after posting a cryptic message, but he could not do enough to prevent the Toffees from a home loss
Alex Iwobi played as a number 10, but it was a disappointing evening for him and his Everton side as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Burnley.
The former Arsenal star had sent a subtle message to Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti about how he loves playing for Nigeria because he plays in his preferred position.
Ancelotti then revealed Iwobi could play in the number 10 position if that’s what he wants. And with James Rodriguez missing due to injury, Iwobi was handed a starting role as a number 10.
The Nigerian international had a decent performance in the role, making two key passes, while he also completed 89% of his passes.
However, despite trying his best, it was not enough as Everton lost more ground in the race for the top four following the defeat.
Burnley took the lead in the 13th minute through Chris Wood before Dwight McNeil doubled their advantage 11 minutes later.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin reduced the deficit in the 32nd minute, but that proved to be the last goal of the match as Burnley held on despite Everton’s pressure.
