The Everton winger missed the clash against the Benin Republic after testing positive for Covid-19, but he has now been cleared for the match against Lesotho
Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi has been cleared to feature in the team’s final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho after he tested negative for coronavirus.
Iwobi had missed the penultimate clash against Benin in Port-Novo after returning a positive test for the virus just before the game.
However, after the match, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr raised doubts about the results’ authenticity and confirmed the Everton winger would undergo another test in Nigeria.
And Rohr’s doubts have now been confirmed as Iwobi returned a negative test, which was carried out on Monday evening.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed this in a statement released on the federation’s official Twitter handle.
Iwobi is now available to play in the Super Eagles clash against Lesotho. The three-time African champions take on the Crocodiles in their final Group L Afcon qualifiers.
The Super Eagles are already assured of qualification and top spot but will be eager to end the campaign on a high.
