Only six players in the Italian top division now have more goals than the Nigerian international
Simy Nwankwo found his range from the penalty spot, his 13th league goal of the campaign, to hand Crotone a two-goal lead over Bologna at the Estadio Ezio Scida on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Messias broke the deadlock to hand Crotone the lead just past the half-hour mark, and five minutes before the break, it was two-nil to the hosts.
Adama Soumaoro pulled Samuel Di Carmine by the shirt forcing the referee to award a spot-kick to Crotone, which Simy put away expertly without fuss.
The latest goal sees Simy climb up to joint-sixth on the Serie A goalscorer chart.
Only Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo (23 goals), Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku (19 goals), Atalanta’s Muriel (16 goals), AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (14 goals), Lazio’s Ciro Immobile (14 goals), and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez (14 goals) have found the back of the net more times than the Super Eagles star.
Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Cagliari’s Joao Pedro are the other players on 13 goals like the Nigerian.
Compatriot and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has only managed three league goals for Gennaro Gattuso’s side since his big-money summer switch.
Simy, though, is a man in top form, with the ex-Gil Vicente ace netting six times in his last four games.
