The Everton star missed the win over the Benin Republic, but he could be back for the clash against the Crocodiles on Tuesday
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has not completely ruled out Alex Iwobi for the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier game against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.
Iwobi missed Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Benin on Saturday after he tested positive for coronavirus just before the clash at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium.
It was believed that the positive test automatically rules him out of Tuesday’s match against the Crocodiles. But Rohr has now confirmed that the former Arsenal star could still feature for the Super Eagles.
Speaking to the media after the team arrived back at Lagos, Rohr revealed Iwobi has gone for another test as the team believes the positive test released by Benin is fake.
The Everton star is expected to receive the result of his test before Monday, and should it come out as negative, he would be cleared to play against Lesotho on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles are already assured of top spot in Group L of the AFCON qualifiers, but they will be eager to end the qualifying campaign on a high.
