Nigerian football has continued to increase in popularity, and we now see more stars emerging and going overseas to play in Europe.
This is not just in any league but the top leagues and the Champions League. With this being the case, here we cover the top Nigerian players, who are currently playing in Europe.
The first one on the list is Zaidu Sanusi, who moved to Porto over the summer. He has instantly been pushed into the first-team picture and the 23-year-old looks set to be a future star for the Portuguese side.
Sanusi has already made six appearances in this season’s Champions League for the side, whilst also scoring once.
The different betting sites in Nigeria have also been offering odds on Porto in the competition, following their progress to the round of 16.
They will now take on Juventus and are the underdogs to progress through. Sanusi will be hoping to play a major role and the left-back will also be looking to further push his status as a future star of Nigerian football.
Congratulations to Zaidu Sanusi on clinching the Portuguese Super Cup with FC Porto last night.

Second on the list is Frank Onyeka, who currently plays for FC Midtjylland. He has continued to improve in recent seasons and has developed into another star of Nigerian football.
Onyeka was voted the Best player at FC Midtjylland last season, winning the Danish Superliga title.
He played a vital role in their qualification for the Champions League group stage, although they could not make it out of a group that includes Liverpool, Atalanta and Ajax.
Onyeka could be the future of Nigerian football and will be looking to continue to progress this season and help lead the Danish champions to another domestic title.
Third on the list is Emmanuel Dennis, who currently plays for FC Koln in Germany. He got people’s attention in Europe after scoring a brace against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu while playing for Club Brugge.
Dennis is still settling in Germany, but he is clearly a very talented player, so could be another future star of Nigerian football.
The final player on the list is Azubuike Okechukwu, who currently plays for Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey. He signed a contract for the Turkish champions back in August of last year, having been on loan at the club previously.
This also saw him play a role in pushing them to win another domestic title, whilst also making two appearances in the Champions League.
He is also slowly pushing for a place in the line-up, making seven league appearances this season. The 23-year-old is another player for the future and could be yet another exciting Nigerian player to look at for.
