Rohr Says Teslim Balogun Not Good Enough To Host The Super Eagles

Nigeria will play their final match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Lagos, but the German tactician has said that the facilities are not in perfect conditions

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that there’s still a lot of work to be done on the Teslim Balogun Stadium ahead of Nigeria’s Afcon qualifying game against Lesotho.

The three-time African champions will be playing a competitive game in Lagos for the first time in almost two decades when they welcome Lesotho in their final 2021 Afcon qualifier.

However, Rohr is not quite satisfied yet with the conditions of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the game will take place.

The German tactician recently visited the stadium, and he revealed the players might find it difficult to play on the pitch- although he has started preparations for the clash.

“We have to prepare the facilities for the training sessions, and I watched already the Balogun Stadium where we will play, and there’s still a lot of work to do because you must give the best conditions to the players,” Rohr said on Brila FM.

The former Bordeaux manager revealed the players coming for the match are used to playing on good pitches, so it’s important the Teslim Balogun Stadium be in good condition before the encounter.

“They are used to playing on good pitches, and it’s not easy for them to play on the grass which is not the same, but I think everybody will work on it to have good conditions for the matches,” Rohr added.

The Super Eagles play their final two 2021 Afcon qualifiers at the end of March. Rohr’s men take on the Squirrels of Benin in Cotonou on March 22 before playing host to the Crocodiles of Lesotho eight days later.
