Les Girondins are yet to record a win in any competition in over a month, and their troubles continued after another defeat at home despite a brilliant opener from their Nigerian import at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique
Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu was on the scorer’s chart for Girondins Bordeaux, but it was not enough as the struggling French side lost 1-2 at home to Metz in an early Ligue 1 kick-off on Saturday.
Kalu gave Bordeaux a halftime lead against Metz after smashing home a decent Youssouf Sabaly cross in the 14th minute of their Ligue 1 clash.
The visitors arrived at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux full of confidence, having won their last two away games Amiens and Nice.
But Bordeaux’s defence, which had kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches, crumbled under pressure after the break to leave Jean Louis Gasset’s side without a win since beating Angers SCO 2-1 on January 24.
The win pushes Metz to fifth on the French league table with 41 points while Bordeaux remain eight points behind in 11th and have 11 more matches to rescue their disappointing season.
