Steven Gerrard’s men are champions in the making after maintaining an unbeaten start to the campaign with a rugged draw at Motherwell
Rangers are, by a clear distance, the best team in Scotland at the moment, and Liverpool icon Sir Kenny Daglish believes Nigerian defender Leon Balogun has had a pivotal part to play in that.
Balogun has featured 15 times for the Gers since joining in the summer, with the former Mainz star helping the league leaders become the meanest defence in the country.
Rangers have conceded just seven goals in 24 matches and have won eight more games than Celtic to open a 21-point gap on the champions.
Jamaican forward Kemar Roofe is another summer signing who has boosted the Light Blues’ attack, with the former Leeds United man scoring ten of his side’s 60 goals in just 15 appearances.
Daglish believes the duo of Balogun and Roofe has played a vital role in helping Rangers outclass Celtic this term.
“That’s why there needs to be a recognition of how good Rangers have been in the past six months under Steven Gerrard,” Daglish wrote in the Sunday Post.
“They have recruited well, and their summer signings – such as Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun – have made brilliant contributions.”
54-time Scottish Premiership winner Rangers are favourites to win their 55th league triumph in May, barring a monumental collapse.
It will be Leon Balogun’s first career league win, having played for clubs like Brighton Hove and Albion, Mainz, and Wigan Athletic.
