NPFL: Gbenga Ogunbote Not Satisfied Despite Sunshine Stars Victory

The Akure Gunners bounced back from their opening day loss against Jigawa Golden Stars with a 1-0 victory over FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Akure Township Stadium

Sunshine Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, revealed he was disappointed with the number of chances his players missed in their 1-0 win over Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday.

Sunshine were looking for their first win in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season following a 1-0 loss to Jigawa Golden Stars in the opening day.

The Akure Gunners did just that as they picked up their first maximum points of the season thanks to a well-taken freekick from Timilehin Omo Jesu nine minutes into the encounter.

However, despite the victory over Uche Okagbue’s boys, Ogunbote was disappointed that his side could not score more given the number of chances they had.

Speaking in a post-match interview with Soccernet, Ogunbote said his side should have scored two to three goals.

“Yes, of course, we should have won by more than a goal, Ogunbote said when asked if he was disappointed with the scoreline.

“I’m sure every supporter is disappointed that we were unable to score more than a goal. We should be about two or three goals up because sometimes goals matter at the end of the season.

However, Ogunbote was satisfied with the three points and promised there would be improvements ahead of the next game.

“But be it as it may, the important thing is we have been able to keep the three points, and then we go back to do a lot of talking and a lot of corrections” Ogunbote added.
