After ending 2020 on a sparkling note, former Kortrijk star Terem Igodor Moffi has begun the new year in spectacular form
Nigerian forward Terem Moffi scored his third goal in the French first division, but it was not enough to help struggling Lorient avoid a 5-2 defeat at home to Monaco on Wednesday night.
Axel Disasi put the visitors – who did not name Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru in the matchday squad – ahead in the ninth minute.
But on the half-hour mark, Moffi displayed incredible skill to dribble past opposing defenders and volley home the hosts’ equaliser.
Lorient went down to ten men shortly after the halftime break when Jonathan Delaplace received a red card for pulling an opponent’s shirt.
Aleksandr Golovin made the visitors’ numerical advantage count when he struck from outside the box to make it 2-1 in the 64th minute.
Three minutes later, the home side was back in the game with Andrew Gravillon netting the equaliser.
But another defensive blunder allowed Kevin Volland to head home the third goal for Nico Kovac’s side before Sofiane Diop and Guillermo Maripan added the fourth and fifth late on.
Moffi would be disappointed with the defeat, despite being on the scorer’s chart.
The Nigerian forward got his second Ligue 1 goal for Lorient two days to Christmas in the club’s 2-2 draw with Nice and has now scored in consecutive matches for the French side.
Since departing Belgian top division side Kortrijk, Moffi has managed three goals in 12 Ligue 1 matches for Lorient.
