Nigeria and England have always battled it out for players eligible to represent both nations, and this time the Super Eagles appear to have come out on top
The Super Eagles have been handed a boost after Ike Ugbo revealed he is ready to switch international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Ugbo was born in England and has represented the Three Lions at both the U-17 and U-20 level, scoring seven goals 20 appearances.
However, the 22-year-old qualifies to play for Nigeria through his parents and has decided to represent the three-time African champions.
Speaking in an interview with Belgium newspaper, HLN, Ugbo revealed he has started the process of switching allegiance and would love to play for Nigeria at the 2022 World Cup.
“The paperwork is not quite in order yet, but my agent is working on it”, the striker reveals. “Playing a World Cup is every footballer’s dream, isn’t it?” Ugbo told HLN.
Ugbo is currently on loan at Cercle Brugge from Chelsea, which has proven to be a success so far. The 22-year-old attacker has scored ten league goals in 16 games in the Belgian top-flight this season.
