The former Golden Eaglets star has started 2021 the same way he ended 2020 after he scored and provided an assist to put Union Berlin 2-0 up at Werder Bremen
Taiwo Awoniyi created the first and scored the second as Union Berlin currently lead Werder Bremen in their Bundesliga encounter at Weser Stadium.
The striker has struggled to forge a successful club career so far, but he appears to have found his feet at Union Berlin.

Awoniyi joined Union from Liverpool in another loan deal and overcame a slow start to become one of the team’s regular starters under Urs Fishcher.
The games against Werder Bremen is his ninth league start in 12 league appearance. Urs Fischer’s men took the lead in the 12th minute after Awoniyi set up Sheraldo Becker.
The former Mainz attacker then doubled Union’s advantage for his fifth goal of the season, poking past Jiri Pavlenka in Werder’s goal.
Awoniyi’s strike proved to be the final goal of the game as Union Berlin held on despite Werder Bremen’s efforts to turn it around after the break.
