The Nigerian midfielder has been delivering consistently impressive performances for the Toffees in recent times, and his endeavour has not gone unnoticed by his club’s manager and fans
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has acknowledged that since he took charge of the Premier League side about a year ago, he presently sees the best of Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi provided the assist for Everton’s first goal by Richarlison in the 21st minute as the Toffees shocked high-flying Leicester 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday.
It is a delightful turnaround for a player who struggled to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup in the first eight games of the season.
But the ex-Arsenal ace has forced himself back into the good books of the former Real Madrid manager, with his versatility and ability to beat his man. And Ancelotti singled out Iwobi for praise after his latest quality showing.
“It’s his [Iwobi’s] best moment since I arrived [at Everton]. He is showing confidence, is really good in one-versus-one situations, and is working hard,” Ancelotti told Everton TV.
“The key is to work hard – the team is working hard. I said to the players that we have to be satisfied for tonight, but we have to work, and we have to improve.”
Everton fans have echoed the feelings of their Italian manager, with many impressed with the performances of Iwobi over the past few weeks.
Iwobi posted a photo of himself and his teammates on Twitter, and many Toffees faithful took the opportunity to laud the effort of the Nigerian star.
Everton, who are fifth in the table with 23 points from 13 games, host Arsenal in their next Premier League game this coming Saturday.
