The mercurial midfielder returned to goalscoring ways at the weekend, and he has lauded the Super Eagles midfield general for his impact in his game
Leicester City number 10 James Maddison is pleased with the return of Wilfred Ndidi to the Foxes’ first eleven, saying he’s more confident going forward when he knows the Nigerian star is covering for him at the back.
Ndidi made his first Premier League start since recovering from an adductor issue that required surgery as Brendan Rodgers side handed Brighton & Hove a 3-0 thrashing at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
The Super Eagles midfield general delivered another brilliant performance for the 80 minutes he was on the pitch to help the Foxes claim their first clean sheet in the last four league games.
But Maddison provided two of the game’s highlights, scoring the opener in the 27th minute before Jamie Vardy made it 2-0 minutes later.
The England international playmaker then scored a sensational third goal when he curled the ball into the top corner after Ndidi recovered possession in the build-up.
Maddison is impressed with Ndidi’s ball-winning abilities, and when quizzed on his second goal, the playmaker told Leicester’s official webpage: “We actually won the ball in midfield. Wilfred Ndidi, [it’s] really good to have him back, I feel safe when I’m in there with Wilf behind me.
“It’s almost like he’s two players, and what Wilf’s improved on a lot, especially since I joined the Club, is his passing ability.
“It’s improved a lot and [he] wins the ball back, and I remember, his first pass being forward to me. [A] forward, along-the-floor, hard pass and that’s something that he’s really improved on.”
The victory over Brighton sees Leicester City climb up to third on the Premier League table one point behind joint-leaders Tottenham and champions Liverpool who both dropped points at the weekend.
