The CAF Champions League preliminary round draws, held in Cairo Egypt on Monday, pitched the Tanzania representatives against the Nigerian champions, and a tantalizing encounter awaits later in November
Simba FC and NPFL kings Plateau United trade tackles in the CAF Champions League preliminary round, and the Tanzanian side believes they have what it takes to knock out their Nigerian opponents and advance to the next round of Africa’s premier club competitions.
Simba SC, led by Belgian head coach Sven Vandenbroeck have never made it beyond the quarterfinals stage of the CAF Champions League, but that feat was achieved two seasons ago.
And the club’s board member Crescentius Magori is confident that Tanzania’s second-biggest club can draw inspiration from that campaign to power past their favoured foes.
“It is a tough match because Nigeria is a continental football powerhouse, but given Simba’s pedigree, we will battle to knock them out, ” Magori said after the draws as per Ippmedia.
“1 believe we have a good squad that has what it takes to triumph. We will qualify for the next round.”
Simba SC could be a daunting task for Nigeria’s representatives Plateau United with the Jos-based club. This is the second time in history that the club has qualified for the CAF Champions League.
Simba SC will visit Plateau United for the first leg between November 27— 29, 2020, at the New Jos Stadium before hosting them at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for the second leg between December 4 — 6, 2020.
