“We Need Him” – Super Eagles Skipper Ahmed Musa Urged To Return To Europe

The former Leicester City forward ended his two-year association with Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr recently and has his eyes set on returning to Europe

Wikki Tourists coach Usman Abdallah has advised Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa to shun any retirement thoughts and consider moving back to Europe as the Nigerian senior national team still needs his talents.

Ahmed Musa surprised many in 2017 when he quit CSKA Moscow and headed to the Middle East to become the Saudi Premier League’s most expensive star at just 26 years old.

Musa quickly settled at his new home and in his debut season in Saudi Arabia.

The ex-VV Venlo attacker contributed seven goals in 24 matches to help the Globals win the top-flight title and the Saudi Super Cup.

The Nigerian forward, however, failed to replicate that stunning form this term as he has played 17 league games, including 13 starts without finding the back of the net for Al Nassr.

Yet, it still came as a shock when the player and club decided to part ways a few days ago.

Musa, the Super Eagles’ most capped player in active service, has, however, not been short of admirers, with Turkish giants Galatasaray reportedly making moves to secure the signature of the former Kano Pillars ace.

And former coach of Enyimba International Abdallah has urged the club-less footballer to continue playing at the highest level as the Super Eagles cannot be shorn of his services just yet.

“I think he needs to go back to Europe or maybe a much more competitive league because he is still young, and we need his experience for the national team,” Abdallah told Brila FM.

“We need him to be playing in a top league so that he can remain relevant in the Super Eagles set up.

A then-teenage Musa began his European sojourn at Dutch side VV Venlo before going on to feature for Russia’s CSKA Moscow and England’s Leicester City.

The 28-year-old attacker has amassed 87 international caps scoring 15 goals for Nigeria, making his debut just over ten years ago at only 17 years and ten months.
