The virus has ruled out several players since football returned and it was reported that one of Nigeria stars caught the bug ahead of last night’s Europa League games
Super Eagles star, Joe Aribo, has survived a coronavirus scare after missing Rangers Europa League clash against Benfica on Thursday night.
Aribo was not in the Rangers squad that played a 2-2 draw against Braga at the Ibrox, and it was rumoured that it was due to a positive coronavirus test.
However, it has now been confirmed that he returned negative tests and only missed the clash due to a stomach complaint.
“He was unwell. He had a stomach complaint [on Wednesday] night, Gerrard said on Aribo’s absence. Hopefully, he will be available for the weekend.
“It’s important to say it is not Covid-related. He was negative on his test before people start putting two and two together.”
The Nigerian international has been impressive for Steven Gerrard’s side this season despite missing six weeks due to injury.
Meanwhile, Aribo’s international teammate, Leon Balogun featured for the whole duration of last night’s encounter as Rangers took a significant step towards securing a place in the round of 32.
The Gers currently sit top of Group D with eight points- same with Benfica, but five ahead of Lech Poznan and Standard Liege.
