Rodgers Says Ndidi’s Form Is The Reason For French Star’s Lack Of Game Time

The Nigerian international is currently out with a groin injury, but when fit, he is one of the undroppable players in the Foxes squad

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers is impressed with Ndidi’s consistency since he arrived, saying the Nigerian’s form is why Nampalys Mendy hasn’t played much.

Ndidi joined the Foxes from Genk in 2017, and he settled in immediately, winning the club’s young player of the season despite playing for just five months.

While he had no problems settling in, Ndidi took his game to a higher level under Rodgers, who replaced Claude Puel as Leicester’s boss in 2019.  The 23-year-old has gone on to become not just one of the league’s best midfielders, but also in the world.

But Ndidi’s form means it has been difficult for Mendy to get enough game time. Speaking ahead of Leicester’s Europa League tie against Braga, Rodgers admitted Mendy’s lack of minutes is due to Nidi’s consistency.

“I think because of Wilf’s form, certainly since I’ve been here, he’s been so consistent, Wilf, and it’s been difficult for Papy to play, the former Liverpool manager said on Leicester’s website.

However, Mendy has profited from Ndidi’s injury, and he will hope to impress once again in tonight’s clash against Braga.
