Nigerians Blast Super Eagles After Throwing Away A Four Goal Lead Against Sierra Leone

Nigeria had gone four goals ahead inside the opening 30 minutes of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, but the Leone Stars pulled off a miraculous comeback to draw level at full time

Fans have expressed their anger at the Super Eagles following their 4-4 draw against the Leone Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

It took the three-time African champions just four minutes to open the scoring in the first leg of their doubleheader Afcon qualifier against Sierra Leone.

Alex Iwobi’s shot gave Nigeria the lead inside the opening five minutes before Victor Osimhen finished off a low cross from Zaidu Sanusi to double the Super Eagles lead.

Iwobi’s curler from about 30 yards out made it three in the 27th minute. Samuel Chukwueze then made it four with a brilliant solo effort in the 30th minute.

At that point, it looked like it was going to be a routine win for Gernot Rohr’s men. However, Sierra Leone had other ideas, and they pulled one back four minutes before half-time through Kwame Quee.

The second-half saw the West African nation score three goals to complete an incredible comeback. First, Al-Hadji Kamara made it 4-2 in the 72nd minute before Mustapha Bundu’s header in the 80th minute set up a nervy finish.

And with just four minutes to go, Zaidu Sanusi was dispossessed on the edge of the box, and the resulting ball fell into the path of Kamara, who headed home his second to secure an unlikely point for Sierra Leone.

Following the encounter, many Nigerians took to Twitter to express their feelings towards the disappointing result.

Despite the disappointing result, Nigeria still maintain their lead at the top of Group L with seven points from three games.

The Super Eagles have the chance to bounce back immediately when they take on the Leone Stars in the return leg at Freetown next Tuesday.
