Nigerians Abroad: Etebo Stars, Ebuehi Assists, Sanrenren-Bazee Impresses In Club Wins

After missing Galatasaray’s 1-2 victory at BB Erzurumspor due to suspension, Nigeria’s Oghenekaro Etebo returned to the Yellow-and-Reds’ starting eleven and was solid in midfield as coach Fatih Terim’s men picked up a 1-0 win over Ankaragucu on Saturday.

Former Liverpool ace Ryan Babel got the only goal of the encounter deep into first-half stoppage time.

Etebo’s compatriot Jesse Sekidika, who is yet to feature for Galatasaray this term, did not make it off the bench.

Nigerian winger Olabiran ‘Benito’ Muyiwa got his first goal of the Ukrainian Premier League to help Olimpik Donetsk record a 2-1 away win at Kolos Kovalivka.

The 22-year-old attacker opened the scoring after just 17 minutes before teammate Zahedi doubled the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot just past the hour-mark.

Four minutes to the end, the home side was awarded a penalty also, converted by Seleznev to reduce the deficit.

In the Eredivisie, Super Eagles full-back Tyronne Ebuehi was on hand to help Twente halt a run of two consecutive defeats with a 5-1 whipping of PEC Zwolle.

The Nigerian defender provided the assist for Luka Ilić to slam home the home side’s fifth goal of the game in the 84th-minute.

In Russia, Victor Moses suffered his first Spartak Moscow defeat on his home debut as Rostov claimed an unlikely 1-0 win.

The on-loan Chelsea winger had been involved in away victories at Khimki (2-3) and Krasnodar (1-3) but could not stop Domenico Tedesco’s men from losing to the visitors.

In the German Bundesliga, 24-year-old forward Noah Sarenren-Bazee came off the bench to lift Augsburg to a 3-1 triumph over Mainz at the WWK Arena.

The German-born, Nigeria-eligible star was introduced in the 79th-minute with the game locked at 1-1.

But moments after Bazee’s entry, Andre Hahn made it 2-1 for the hosts before the German star netted his second of the game in stoppage following a fine Bazee assist.

In the Czech Republic’s Super Liga and in just his second game for the club, Abdurahman Taiwo bagged the brace that powered Zeplin Michalovce to a 2-1 away victory at Spartak Trnava.

The 22-year-old Nigerian attacker, who joined Zemplín on-loan from DAC earlier last month, struck first shortly after the break and grabbed his second of the evening in the 65th-minute.

Trnava, who also had Nigerian defender Izuchukwu Anthony and 19-year-old midfielder Bamidele Yusuf on the field, responded through a 90th-minute Vlasko penalty kick.

Still, it was a little too late as their visitors made away with all the three points on offer.
