Heartbreak For Okoye As Sparta Lose Narrowly To PSV

The Super Eagles goalkeeper gave a man of the match performance, but it was not enough to prevent the Castle Lords from a fifth league defeat

Maduka Okoye made his fourth league appearance of the season as Sparta Rotterdam suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadium.

However, it could have been more than that, but Okoye heroics denied the hosts. The Super Eagles star withstood everything PSV threw at him, and it only took a rebound from a penalty kick to finally beat him.

Okoye made a total of five saves, in what was his fourth league appearance in the Dutch top-flight since his move from Fortuna Dusseldorf.

PSV dominated possession from start to finish but had to wait till the 78th minute before finding the breakthrough.

It came after they were awarded a penalty, which was initially saved by Okoye, but Donyell Malen converted the rebound.

The result lifts the host to third on the table with 23 points from 20 games while Sparta are tenth with nine points from the same number of games.
