Amaju Pinnick: Victor Osimhen Will Soon Be Back For Napoli

The Nigeria international missed the Super Eagles reverse fixture against Sierra Leone in Freetown due to injury, and he is expected to be unavailable for his club in the coming days

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has confirmed that Victor Osimhen’s shoulder injury, cupped on national duty, is not as severe as initially feared.

Pinnick went further to say medical tests revealed that the Napoli striker would be back on the pitch in no time.

Osimhen scored the Super Eagles’ second goal – his fifth in nine games for the national team – in their 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone last Friday but had to be replaced midway into the second-half after an awkward fall.

The former Lille star subsequently missed the return leg in Sierra Leone – another disappointing draw in Freetown – and he is a huge doubt for Napoli’s massive clash against AC Milan in the Serie A this weekend.

Nigeria’s number one football official has, however, assured Napoli fans that their beloved club’s most expensive signing ever would soon be back banging in the goals.

“The first thing we did is try to understand the severity of the injury suffered: the boy was taken to the hospital where an orthopaedic surgeon subjected him to fundamental tests, ” Amaju Pinnick told Radio Kiss Kiss, as per Corriere Dello Sport.

“Together with Victor, we waited for the results of the exams; I was in the hospital with him. Once the visits were over, we were back together at the hotel.

“The surgeon called us on the phone and let us know that Osimhen would surely miss the second match of the national team.

“The positive news is that from injuries like these, he will recover in a short time, and therefore Victor will soon be back in play in Napoli.”

Osimhen has scored two league goals since his record move to Italy in the summer. The former Golden Eaglets star opened his Serie A account with a goal in Napoli’s 4-1 defeat of Atalanta in October.

The 21-year-old then headed in the winning goal for Gennaro Gattuso’s side in their 1-0 win at Bologna in November.
