AFCON Qualifiers: Massive Boost For Rohr Ahead Of Nigeria’s Clash Against Sierra Leone

The 67-year-old will be without Moses Simon and Kenneth Omeruo for next week’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but Sebastian Osigwe should be available for the games

Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, has received a massive boost ahead of Nigeria’s doubleheader AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone after Sebastian Osigwe tested negative for the coronavirus.

Rohr handed the Lugano goalkeeper a first international call-up when he named his Super Eagles squad last week.

However, a few days after, the Swiss-born goalkeeper tested positive for Covid-19, putting his participation in the two games in doubt.

But sources have now confirmed to Soccernet, that the 26-year-old is available for selection after testing negative to the virus.

Osigwe was born in Switzerland to Nigerian parents and has represented Nigeria at youth level. This is his first invitation to the senior team, and he is expected to challenge Maduka Okoye and Daniel Akpeyi for the number one spot.

Nigeria host Sierra Leone on the 13th of November before travelling to Freetown four days later for the return leg.

A win in both games will see the Super Eagles qualify for 2022 AFCON.
