Super Eagles Ready To Make Nigerians Proud Against Algeria

The Gernot-Rohr tutored-side play the first of two international friendly matches slated for this month against the Fennecs on Friday

The Super Eagles are ready to give their best and battle for a victory when facing current African champions Algeria at the Jacques Lemans Arena, says the national team coordinator, Patrick Pascal.

Reports emerging from the Super Eagles camp in Austria ahead of the October 9 and 13 friendly matches against Algeria and Tunisia reveals that all the 25 players invited for the double-header, including former German youth international Kevin Akpoguma, have arrived in camp.

Head coach Rohr and his assistants have since begun training sessions with the squad intending to map out plans to upstage their opponents at the end of the games.

Nigeria face Algeria first on Friday, but the Dessert Foxes will be a formidable foe to beat, with the reigning AFCON kings on an impressive 18-match unbeaten run.

It will be a repeat of last year’s semifinal clash when the north Africans edged the West African side, courtesy of a late Riyad Mahrez thunderbolt freekick.

Nigeria, however, hold the slight advantage in the head-to-head match-up, and former international Pascal says Rohr and his crew are treating the encounter with all seriousness.

“The newly invited players, according to the technical officials, played well in the training session, and they are well-disciplined and ready to work with the vision of the coach,” Pascal told the LeadershipNG.

“The technical crew has made it known to them that the two matches are very important and want to play the match with all seriousness and discipline.

“The Hoffenheim centre back, Kevin Akpoguma, was also welcomed to the team. Rohr encouraged all the players to do their best to make the country proud.”

There have been 20 previous meetings between Nigeria and Algeria senior teams, with the Super Eagles claiming nine victories to the Fennec’s eight wins with three other matches ending in a draw.
