The 19-year-old was handed his first call-up to England’s senior national team, and he celebrated it with a goal in Arsenal’s win over Sheffield United
Bukayo Saka was on target as Arsenal got the better off Sheffield United in the Premier League encounter between the two sides on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates.
Saka, who was called up to England’s squad for the first time last week, put the Gunners ahead in the 61st minute.
The academy graduate headed Mikel Arteta’s men in front following a cross from Hector Bellerin. The goal brought Arsenal to life, and they doubled their advantage three minutes later through a brilliant Nicolas Pepe strike.
Sheffield threatened to mount a comeback when David McGoldrick pulled one back three minutes from time, but Arsenal held on for the maximum points.
Meanwhile, in France, Samuel Kalu showed why Saka would not be a big miss for the Super Eagles as he scored his second league goal of the season in Bordeaux 3-0 win over Dijon.
Remi Oudin put Les Girondins ahead in the 12th minute before Kalu then doubled the advantage in the 29th minute. Tom Basic strike one minute from time sealed a comprehensive win for Jean-Louis Gasset’s men.
Kalu’s international teammate, Josh Maja, also played in the encounter, featuring for 63 minutes before going off for Jimmy Briand.
