#LekkiMassacre: Super Eagles Star Calls On His Teammates To Boycott Future National Team Games

Reactions continue to trail the Nigerian Government’s decision to send armed forces to fire live ammunition at protesters calling for an end to police brutality

Super Eagles star, John Ogu has called on his teammates to boycott future national team games as a reaction to lives of the citizens lost at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Over the last two weeks, Nigerians have been on the streets in different major cities, protesting against police brutality in the country.

The peaceful protest which started as a movement against the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), however, turned into anarchy on Tuesday after some hoodlums hijacked it.

To maintain law and order, the Lagos state government imposed a 24-hour- curfew which initially started at 4 pm, but was later shifted to 9 pm Nigerian time.

However, protesters in Alausa and Lekki Toll Gate defied the order by continuing with the protest, and that led the federal government to send in the Armed Forces.

The decision to send military men to a peaceful protest turned out bloody as officers of the Nigerian army fired shots at the protesters with over four people reportedly dead.

Following the incident, several Nigerian stars condemned the federal government’s action. Manchester United striker, Odion Ighalo reacted to the tragic incident by uploading a video on social media, saying the Nigerian government is an embarrassment to the world.

Another Super Eagles star, Ogu, has also reacted to the event, calling on his teammates not to play in future national team games.

The former Hapoel Beer Sheva said on his Twitter account that the children of Nigerian politicians should prosecute future national team matches.

Nigeria face Sierra Leone in a doubleheader Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month, but it remains to be seen if Ogu’s teammate will heed to his call.
