Good News For NPFL, NNL

The local leagues have been on a hiatus for over seven months, but the top two divisions are set for a return anytime from now

Football is set to resume in Nigeria after the Presidential committee on Covid-19 gave the go-ahead for contact sport to return.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has been on a break since March, while the last game in the Nigeria National League (NNL) division was played in December 2019.

While the NPFL has since put an end to last season, the new campaign could start anytime soon following the federal government’s latest declaration.

However, matches will be played behind closed doors as fans are still not allowed to enter grounds due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest development also means the Super Eagles game against the Leone Stars will take place in the country, but without fans.  Nigeria take on Sierra Leone in a doubleheader Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
