The Nigerian youngster finally got his first Serie A goal at the weekend to the delight of the manager who did everything to take him to Italy
Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso is satisfied with his side’s convincing 4-1 victory over Atalanta on Saturday.
The former AC Milan midfielder is especially pleased with the goalscoring performance of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen who bagged his first competitive goal for the Naples based club.
Many expected Atalanta, who had won each of their previous three games, to pose a much stiffer challenge for Gattuso’s side at the Stadio San Paolo.
But four first-half goals from Lozano, who bagged a brace, Politano and Osimhen sent the visitors to the cleaners, securing all the three points on offer for the hosts.
A delighted Gattuso could not hide his happiness when talking to the club’s official website.
“Clear and deserved victory,” the former midfield general said.
“We prepared the match very well. I had thought of it just like that, in terms of performance. I didn’t expect a wide result because I know that Atalanta is a very strong team, but I must say that we had a great match.”
Despite Lozano providing two of the game’s highlights, Gattuso sang the praises of Osimhen, the Napoli’s record signing from Lille earlier in the summer.
The Napoli boss revealed he pushed for the transfer of the former Sporting Charleroi star and he is delighted the young striker has already shown through his hard work how important he is for the Italian club.
“I’m happy for Chucky’s brace, but Osimhen’s goal makes me happy because he hadn’t scored so far and he deserved it for the hard work done for the team,” Gattuso continued.
“Victor was my wish, and I thank the President for having satisfied me. It wasn’t easy, but we have bought a player who is very important to us.”
Napoli’s win over Atalanta is the club’s third victory in four games lifting them to third on the Serie A table with nine points.
