The #endsars protest is currently going on across major cities in Nigeria, and it has gotten the attention of one of Nigeria’s football stars
Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu, has lent his voice to the #endsars movement, which is gaining momentum across the country.
The Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) is a unit in the police force established to tackle armed robberies, but it is known for his brutality and killing of Nigerian citizens.
As a result of the menace the unit’s operatives have caused, youths took to the streets, calling on the Federal Government to disband the unit.
The protest got the attention of Ogu, and he has called on the government to disband the group. The former Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder took to his Twitter account to support the movement.
“Enough is Enough,” Ogu said on his account with the caption #EndSars. In another separate tweet, the 32-year-old quoted a lyric from Nigerian rapper, Dremo, which states: ” I pray our first checkpoint will never be our last bus-stop.
Ogu is not part of the Nigerian squad that will face Algeria in an international friendly tonight. Still, Nigerians have called on the players speak out against police brutality in the country.
