The Super Eagles goalkeeper had missed Amakhosi’s opening day defeat to the champions, but he made his return on Tuesday night
Daniel Akpeyi showed why Kaizer Chiefs fans want him back in goal after he kept a clean sheet in the team’s 1-0 win over Chippa United.
Before tonight, Akpeyi was yet to feature in Chiefs games this season with coach Gavin Hunt preferring Itumeleng Khune in goal.
The South African international was in goal in Chiefs Dstv Premier League opening day loss to Mamelodi Sundowns and the MTN 8.
However, his unconvincing displays led to calls for him to be dropped, which Hunt heeded. The former Bidvest manager decided to hand Akpeyi a start in Chiefs second league game, and it was a decision that paid off as they secured a 1-0 win over Chippa United.
In a match they dominated from start to finish, it took an own goal from Gregory Damons thirteen minutes from time for Hunt’s men to secure the three points.
The result means Chiefs pick up their first league win of the new campaign following their opening day loss to last season champions.
