With several Nigerian national team members back in business across the major football leagues of Europe, many Nigerian betting sites have already published their odds for the coming season. We take a look at who are the Super Eagles stars most likely to pick up silverware as we advance into the 2020/21 campaign.
Odion Ighalo, Manchester United
It comes as no surprise that Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo is on the list. Ighalo made the switch to the Red Devils in the dying hours of deadline day back in January 2020, declaring his love for the club he has supported since he was a boy.
The Lagos-born forward has made some appearances off the bench, of particular note as part of United’s ill-fated Europa League campaign last season which saw them crash out to Sevilla in the semi-finals.
Signs of frustration have begun to creep in, with Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appearing hesitant to give Ighalo game time in the Premier League this season.
With the forward’s loan deal extended until January, it remains to be seen whether Ighalo can play a part in the hunt for silverware in the business end of the season.
Bet9ja football betting has published the latest odds with United amongst the top five favourites to lift the Premier League. It looks much more likely United will look to cup competitions for a trophy this season.
Kelechi Iheanachọ, Leicester City
Leicester City have certainly been punching above their weight in recent years. A Premier League title as recently as 2016 and a top-five finish last year has instilled a culture in the club that keeps them in the mix for silverware this season.
Ịheanachọ’s Leicester are outsiders to pick up the Premier League at 41.0 and 17.0 to win the FA Cup this season.
As one of Nigerian’s most accomplished forwards, Ịheanachọ has so far made over 70 appearances for The Foxes and will be an integral cog in Brendan Rodgers attacking line over the season.
Victor Osimhen, Napoli
The Super Eagles are definitely not short in the firepower department that’s for sure. A recent arrival in Naples from Lille for big money will likely see him challenge for a first-team place in Serie A this season.
But then how big Osimhen can make an impact, and how likely Napoli are to pick up silverware are two different matters entirely. Gennaro Gattuso’s side will be looking to improve on last season’s disappointing seventh-place finish.
With big spenders Juventus and Inter Milan looking to carve out Serie A between them it seems unlikely Napoli will mount a title challenge seen in recent years under Carlo Ancellotti.
The Gli Azzurri are current holders of the Coppa Italia and will be no doubt looking to defend their cup title fiercely. Osimhen could well be in with a chance of landing silverware in the cup with Napoli priced at 3.25 to win it.
Zaidu Sanusi, Porto
With main left-back and Brazilian international Alex Telles looking to be on his way out of Porto, it could fall to Kebbi native Zaidu Sanusi to be FC Porto’s first choice going into this season.
Sanusi has spent the last four to five years bouncing around the Portuguese lower leagues only to be picked up by the champions to bolster their defence as they look to hold onto their latest piece of silverware.
Porto’s title defence has gotten off to a stellar start with back to back wins making them favourites alongside main rivals Benfica to retain their trophy. Priced at 2.25m, it could make Zaidu Sanusi the most likely Super Eagles star to lift silverware this season!
