Messi Reveals Why He His Staying At Barcelona

The Argentine superstar shocked the sporting world when he announced his intention to leave Barcelona, but he has now reneged on the decision

Lionel Messi is staying at Barcelona after all days after he expressed his desire to leave the club. Although it’s Messi wish to leave a place that has been his home for almost two decades, the Argentina international revealed he decided to stay because he doesn’t want to take legal action against the club.

The 33-year-old revealed he was told he could leave Barcelona for free this summer, but the club was not ready to let him go.

Speaking in an interview with Goal, Messi said he sent a burofax to the club because he wanted to invoke a clause which allows him to leave for free.

But Barcelona were adamant that clubs interested in signing Messi, who still has a year left on his contract, would have to pay his release clause.

“I thought and was sure that I was free to leave,” Messi told Goal.

“The president always said that at the end of the season, I could decide if I stayed or not.

“And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club. Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the 700m clause, and that this is impossible.”

The 33-year-old genius said if he had told Barca of his intentions to leave before June 10- the date which Barcelona said the clause to leave for free expired, clubs wouldn’t have had to pay the 700m euros.

“Now they cling to the fact that I did not say it before June 10, when it turns out that on June 10 we were competing for La Liga in the middle of this awful coronavirus and this disease altered all the season,” he added.

“There was another way and it was to go to trial. I would never go to court against Barca because it is the club that I love, which gave me everything since I arrived.

“It is the club of my life, I have made my life here.”

Although he wanted to leave, Messi insists he will give his all under new manager, Ronald Koeman, but hopes his hopes the team can respond to his ideas.
