Liverpool Send Taiwo Awoniyi Back To Germany On Loan

The Nigerian forward is still not eligible to feature in the Premier League, and he has yet again been shipped abroad to play his football

Liverpool have confirmed that former Golden Eaglets striker Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Bundesliga side Union Berlin on loan for the 2020-21 season.

Liverpool signed Awoniyi in 2015 after the youngster helped Nigeria to win the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup. But the Anfield giants have not been able to unleash the Nigerian forward on the Premier League due to work permit issues.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed spells on loans at different clubs, including at Frankfurt, NEC, Royal Excel Mouscron as well as Gent.

Last season, Awoniyi was in the Bundesliga with FSV Mainz 05, where he scored one goal in 12 appearances.

He is now to return to Germany to team up with compatriot Anthony Ujah at Union Berlin and help Urs Fischer side do better than their 11th-placed finish last season.

Awoniyi’s contract with the Reds expires next summer.
