Bad News For Ndidi As Rodgers Confirms Extent Of Injury

It was hoped the Nigerian would not require surgery for the injury he suffered, but the Foxes manager has revealed his midfielder will go under the knife

Leicester City’s manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Wilfred Ndidi will need surgery on an adductor injury, and the Super Eagles star could be out for up to three months.

Ndidi picked up the injury after playing the full 90 minutes in Leicester’s 4-2 win over Burnley last weekend. He was not in the squad that lost to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

After his side’s loss to the Gunners, Rodgers revealed Ndidi could be out for six or 12 weeks, depending on whether he would need an operation. 

It has now been confirmed that the former Genk star will go under the knife, and that is set to keep him out for three months.

Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of Leicester’s Premier League clash against Manchester City, Rodgers said Ndidi is set to undergo surgery on Saturday.

“That (surgery) will take probably place tomorrow morning,” the former Celtic manager told Leicester City’s website. “It’s just unfortunate, it’s come right off the bone, so he’s going to be up to 12 weeks we think. He’s a huge player for us.

“It’s something that showed his mentality against Burnley [because] he felt it. Towards the end of last season, he felt some pain there, and he felt it late on in the Burnley game.

Ndidi has been key to Leicester’s progress in the last few seasons, and will definitely be a big miss, but Rodgers expect others to step in.

“I’m sure he’ll make a really good recovery, and we’ll welcome him back when he comes back, but there’s no doubt he’s a miss.

“We have players capable of stepping in. Papy [Mendy] signed a new contract in the summer and has started the season very well.
